What is Outlining?

Welcome to The Writers Secret Book.

Today we are talking about outlining what for Plotters and Plantsers is essential.

What is a Plotter or a Plantser? That was yesterday’s topic, check it out.

What is it, and Why is it important?

An outline is basically create the blueprint of your story.

That will have to include all the research and information that you know will be necessary to transform the idea into a draft.

We will go into deep detail tomorrow about how to outline your story and I will give you a few templates.

This is the hardest work a writer has to go through, yes even worse than editing.

The reason is simple, you have to bring all your ideas into paper. structure them, break down your characters on big detail as if you are them, write brainstorm notes, and write all the details that will be needed for the story.

Something you need to keep in mind at the time of outlining is THE CHARACTERS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT.

That means you have a global idea for the plot, but the story is not the plot, the story is the characters and the plot is what happens to the characters and why it matters.

No strong characters and properly analysed characters? No story, simple and easy.

But don’t panic. In the next few days we will go on detail how to structure your characters and then we will move on to the secondary ones, villans, anti-heroes, etc, moving on to the story, plot, etc.

Make sure to read the daily blogs in October for important information on NaNoWriMo preparation. Even if you’re not participating this year, they can help you outline your next novel like a PRO.

Comment below if you have outlined.

And I will see you tomorrow with all about how to outline your novel.

Until then, keep prepping.
