Welcome October, haven’t I been waiting for you, hey! writers, and welcome to my blog.
If you have chosen this post, A. you know what Preptober is all about and want some tips to be on track, or B. someone has mentioned it and you need all the information you can gather before the end of month hits.
Preptober is the lead-up to National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a worldwide event that takes place every November and encourages writers to write a 50,000-word novel in a month. To make sure you’re ready to take on the challenge, Preptober is your chance to get what you need in order.
Gather your goals, assess your time, and get signed up
It’s important that before you plan to join blindfolded, you make sure you have the time to take part in writing 50,000 words a month, which breaks down to around 1,666 words a day. That is a manageable chunk in many ways, but it might be too much depending on your other commitments.
Writing should be fun and if you think you’re going to get stressed doing it then it might not be for you.
If you are sure you are ready, you will need to have your goals ready, as I am sure you’ve been meaning to start that novel ages ago, but it’s all a bunch of nonsense notes.
To commit yourself, sign up for the NaNoWriMo website (it’s free!) and follow their guidance, tips, and advice.

Consider who you are as a writer.
Are you a plotter, panster? I have a full blog explaining the differences, pros, and cons of each. There is no right or wrong, each person is different, but knowing this will help you in the next steps.
Either of them, I will encourage you to prepare yourself and even as a panster, do a small outline, so you don’t have to do it along the process of NaNo as that will make you waste your time, and probably miss the mark of 50k words.
The premise of your book
Panster or plotter you need to have a premise of your book. Know what genre it is, and the basic idea of the plot.
Create mood boards and playlists
Being focused every day and ready to write can be tough, make sure you have multiple resources to keep you on track of your work.
Search some pictures on Pinterest, I share with you my own as examples, and create a playlist that reminds you of what you are writing, I have a few playlists available too, for plotting, writing, sad, happy moments, and seasonal ones.

Write down everything
The big writing of the story doesn’t start until November 1st, but I will suggest you write any single small idea that crosses your mind. It might sound ridiculous, but I can assure you it will be gone in 30 days when you sit down and panic starts to run through your veins.
Take notes, write random scenarios, dialogues, anything that crosses your mind about this story, later on you will find the place to add it.

Interact with other writers
You’re NOT alone, there are million of writers joining, and best of all, I am sure you can find local writers, that can encourage you to keep going during NaNoWriMo, and allow you to bounce ideas off each other.
I will take part in NaNoWriMo this year, to finish my third book and take the time to edit book 2. What a better challenge to finish a series, isn’t it?
Comment below if you will join and let’s keep in contact, good luck.
Until then, keep prepping.
